Aurora firefighter falls through collapsing floor, rescued minutes into house fire

An Aurora firefighter fell through a collapsing floor and was rescued by crew members just minutes into a house fire, the Aurora Fire Department said.
The firefighter was pulled from the structure and taken to a hospital for treatment. The department did not immediately release the firefighter’s name or condition.
According to the department, the collapse happened during the initial interior attack on the fire. Crews operating inside the home recognized the floor failure and quickly located the missing firefighter.
The department said crews followed standard mayday procedures, which require firefighters to immediately report a missing or trapped member and launch a rescue response.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire and what caused the floor to give way. Structural damage, heat exposure and weakened supports are common risks during interior firefighting operations.
The department said other firefighters at the scene were not injured. The house sustained significant damage.
Aurora Fire has not said when the firefighter is expected to return to duty or when it will release additional information.
